Ms. Melissa Carry

Melissa serves as the Program Coordinator at the Nyumburu Cultural Center and is a proud alumna of the University of Maryland, College Park, where she earned her B.S. in Family Science. With over a decade of experience supporting students and families, she has worked extensively in academic and enrichment programs across before / after-school, and summer settings. Her background includes teaching Elementary General Music & Movement (Culture & Sounds), Social Studies, Science, and Art Workshops, as well as program management and administrative coordination.

Prior to her current role, Melissa worked as an Academic Program Specialist with Academic Achievement Programs since 2019. A native of Prince George’s County, she has dedicated her career to serving youth across Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties and in Washington, D.C. public and charter schools through arts education and enrichment.

In her current position, Melissa develops and implements engaging programming, curates cultural events, and supports administrative processes & marketing initiatives for the Center. As a visual and performing artist, she is deeply passionate about helping others discover, embrace and express their divine uniqueness.
