Support the Nyumburu Cultural Center

The mission of the Nyumburu Cultural Center is to promote an understanding of and appreciation for African American culture in all of its richness and complexity. As a “home away from home” on campus, Nyumburu serves the entire University of Maryland community as a locus of social, cultural and intellectual interaction. 

Your support makes the work we do possible. There are several ways to support the Nyumburu Cultural Center. Please consider which opportunity works best for you:

Established to mark the center’s 50th anniversary, the Nyumburu Cultural Center's Donor Recognition Tree, located on the lower level near the Multipurpose Room, is a meaningful way to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of alumni, faculty, staff,  and organizations who generously supported the center. This artistic installation recognizes donors at the following levels:

Green $1,000
Bronze $5,000
Silver $10,000
Gold $15,000

There is still space on the tree for your leaf! A gift at any of these levels is a statement of your belief in Nyumburu and all we can accomplish together. Make your pledge today to leave your mark on our center's history.

The Nyumburu Cultural Center’s Ambassadors & Friends Wall, a symbol of appreciation and recognition, will soon grace the exterior of our cherished facility, overlooking the vibrant Stamp Student Union. 

Donors who gave $500 to any of the Nyumburu Cultural Center’s funds between January 1, 2021 and July 31, 2026, during the 50th Anniversary campaign, will have their names on a shared plate to highlight their mark in the heart of our Center. 

While this first opportunity to be included on the Ambassadors & Friends Wall has concluded, there will be more chances to inscribe yourself as part of Nyumburu’s story.
